Six Bulls named to West Division All Star Team07/14/2022 2:20 PM -
There will be plenty of Lethbridge representation at the 2022 WCBL All-Star Game in Okotoks on July 23. Utilityman Brad Goodwin, catcher Roger Riley, infielder Nick Gravel and pitchers Ben Erwin, Blade Strzelczyk and Joseph Sinclair were all named to the West Division All-Star squad.
Goodwin, Riley and Gravel have been key bats for a Bulls team that has posted a .776 OPS so far this season at the time of publishing. The versatility of Goodwin and Gravel has been a huge benefit for the team so far this year. Gravel has made starts at three different infield positions throughout the season and has posted a respectable .281 batting average at the plate.
Goodwin has been a two-way player for the Bulls this season. Goodwin has raked at the plate slashing .316/.386/.494 and has picked up two wins out of the bullpen.
Roger Riley has been in the cream of the crop in the WCBL in terms of batting average. At the time of publishing, Roger is hitting .367 to lead the team and sit 6th overall in the league.
Ben Erwin and Blade Strzelczyk have provided key work in the late innings for Chance Wheatley’s club this season. Neither were part of the team on the opening day roster and joined the team late. Erwin, in his final summer of baseball after graduating from Niagara University, has posted a 1.42 ERA across 10 appearances and being tied for the team lead with 4 saves.
It was a great networking job that brought Blade Strzelczyk north of the border.
At the outset of the season, the Bulls were initially short on pitching. All it took was a simple text message from an old friend in Tyler Vivier that convinced Strzelczyk to head north and join the Bulls for the summer. In 18 innings for the Bulls, Strzelczyk has been electric. Pitching to a 2.50 ERA and punching out 21 hitters.
Jospeh Sinclair is the final Bulls All-Star representative. Sinclair has been a solid member of the Bulls starting rotation all season long.
The 2022 Western Canadian Baseball League All-Star game takes place at Seamen Stadium in Okotoks, AB on July 23rd. The event features a home run derby at 5pm, followed by pre-game ceremonies and the game taking place at 7pm.
