Upcoming Improvement to Spitz Stadium
Improvements to the stadium has been separated into 3 different sections: Stadium Grounds, Stadium, and Field. Take into consideration that these improvements are still in the planning phase and may not be carried out exactly as described or even at all, depending on the budget. Spitz Stadium held a City Hall open house meeting to rank priorities and will be done relatively accordingly.
Stadium Grounds
Player Warm-Up Areas: The possibilty of constructing batting cages and bullpens beyond the left and right field fences are being drawn out.
Equipment Storage: Behind the Bulls Clubhouse are areas where equipment can be stored in order to clear some congestion throughout the stadium.
Playground: Down the right field line before the current batting cage is a clearing where a playground may possibly be constructed, appealing to the younger bulls fans.
Landscaping: Stairs, walkways, trees, shrubs, etc. throughout and surrounding the ballpark.
Additional Parking: Plans are being drawn to add parking beyond the left field fence as well adding some more lighting and planting some trees throughout making it more aesthetically pleasing.
Bus Parking/Transit Lay By: Create or separate and area of the parking lot off for the opposing teams bus as well making the ballpark more fan friendly by making the park more accessible to fans unable to drive to and/or from the park.
Patio Heating & Lighting: Increased lighting and heaters will make the patio a fun night even after the game is over.
Stadium
Seating Upgrades: Spitz Stadium will look to improve on its current seating situation by bringing in full back, individual seating like is seen in professional ballparks.
Stadium Exterior & Spectator Flow: A total revamping of the stadiums exterior will make Spitz Stadium the top stadium in Alberta for amateur baseball. Plans to re-organize the interior of the stadium so that stairs bring fans to the top of the grandstand seating and fans proceed down to their seats rather than up as is the current situation.
Media Box Expansion: Expanding the media box across the entire top of the grandstand will allow for improved conditions for media to cover the game.
Washroom upgrades: Improving the conditions of the bathrooms and modernizing them is in the plans.
Sound/Scoreboard: Plans for a new scoreboard are definantly necessary and may be the first improvement made to the stadium. Possibilities of a video screen as well as an energy efficient scoreboard similar to the make up of the existing scoreboard are in the works.
Locker Room Upgrades: Upgrades to the American Legion Clubhouse along the right field foul line will be needed as the current clubhouse is reaching the end of its lifespan.
Dugout Drainage: Creating a better system for drainging dugouts so that they don't flood is need in the imminent future.
Sound System Upgrade/Novelty Sales/Stadium Directional Signage: All 3 ill add to the overall experience at the ballpark making it easier for fans to find, and improve the quality of features like quality of audio.
Field
Field Drainage: Unfortunately, Spitz Stadium has issues with drainage that does not allow water to leave the field surface at a rate that allows for playing in wet conditions. Plans are in the making to improve this situation and create a surface that can withstand the sometime harsh summer rainfalls in Southern Alberta.
Adjust Sprinkler System: Currently, Spitz Stadium has a sprinkler system that is outdated and needs some modernization.
Turf Upgrade: Possibilities of transforming the grass surface into field turf is not being ruled out as an upgrade to the field.
Batter's Eye: The area located right behind centerfield and thus in the hitters eyes as he attempts to hit, will be looked to upgrade. Created a small hill with mature pine trees planted behind will not only provide a good background for hitter but give an aesthietically pleasing look to the area. Also, flag poles will be planted behind the outfield fence as well.
Backstop Repairs: An overall revamping of the backstop area is needed to improve both the quality and appearance of Spitz Stadium.
Widen and Raise Warning Track: Through use, water drainage, and general wear and tear, the warning track is in a state that needs to remedied.
Additional Fencing: Plans for this are still in the works, but the possibility of raising the outfield fence may be in there.
