The Bulls opened a four game homestand Thursday against the Okotoks Dawgs with a spirited ninth inning comeback that fell just short in a 10-9 loss.

Okotoks took a 2-0 lead in top of the first off starter Alex Tufts. Who didn't get any help from his defence, as a pair of errors allowed the two runs to come in.

The Bulls scored three times in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead. Eric Dorton lead off with a triple and Dustin Bissonnette doubled him home. Josh Lowden reached on an error, allowing Bissonnette to score. Then Scott Hornstra drove in Lowden with a base hit.

Okotoks tied the game 3-3 in the top of the second. But Zach Rhodes lead off the bottom of the second with a home run to right field, giving the Bulls a 4-3 lead.

The Dawgs scored three times in the sixth, chasing Tufts from the game, as Richard Farr took over on the mound. He gave way to Steve Hogue in the eighth. Okotoks tacked on four more runs in the eighth inning to take what appeared to be an insurmountable 10-4 lead.

But the Bulls offence wasn't quite finished yet. A one out walk to Ryan MacDonald got things rolling. Bissonnette drove him in with a triple, then later scored on a wild pitch. Okotoks reliever Chris Mezger walked Jesse Sawyer and Hornstra, then hit Stephen Hobbins with a pitch, to load the bases with two out. Rhodes promptly stroked a double to left to clear the bases and make it a one run game. Catcher Joel Blake flew out to right field to end the game, with the tying run (Rhodes) on second base.

Both teams had 13 hits, but the Bulls booted the ball 8 times and the errors were costly, especially early in the game. Rhodes had a tremendous game, going 4 for 4 with a home run, a double and four runs batted in. Bissonette was 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and two RBI.

The loss evens the Bulls record at 4 and 4. The homestand continues Friday with the Edmonton Prospects the visitors. It's Student Night. All students get into the game for one dollar with the presentation of a valid student ID card. The first pitch at Spitz Stadium goes out at 7:05 pm.
