Fan Appreciation Night, the final game of the regular season, was a success both on and off the field Wednesday. The Bulls finished the regular season with a 9-3 win over the Medicine Hat Mavericks, and several prizes were awarded to the fans, including two thousand dollars in the Bulls 2009 raffle.

The game was also a play off preview, as the Bulls and Mavericks will square off in a best-of-five series that begins Friday in Lethbridge.

Medicine Hat took a 1-0 lead after the first inning. But the Bulls came back with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. Thirteen batters went to the plate for the home side. And as is often the case, the big inning started with a lead off walk.

Dustin Bissonnette reached on a walk, and Zach Rhodes and Josh Lowden following with base hits. Lowden's single scored Bissonnette. Rhodes came in on a wild pitch, and Lowden followed him home on another wild pitch. After Jamie Mitchell walked, Stephen Hobbins homered to left field. The two run shot was the first home run of the season for Hobbins. Eric Dorton got on with a walk and Joel Blake doubled to bring him home. Rhodes drove in Blake with his second hit of the inning. Bissonnette walked for a second time in the fourth and scored on a throwing error. The Bulls tacked on one more run in the sixth, when Brady Farrington walked with the base loaded to bring home Rhodes.

Jared Mortenson was the winning pitcher and evened his record at 2 and 2. He replaced starter Alex Tufts after the first inning. Mortenson pitched three scoreless innings, allowed one hit, one walk and had three strikeouts. Jimmy Munnil pitched the fifth, Mitch Schaafsma came in for the sixth, seventh and eighth, and Steve Hogue wrapped up in the ninth.

Both teams had six hits. Rhodes was 2 for 2 with three walks, an RBI and two runs scored. The home run by Hobbins and Blake's double were the only extra base hits.

The Bulls finish up the regular season with a record of 25 wins and 21 losses, second in the WMBL's West Division.  They'll take on Medicine Hat in a best-of-five Divisional Semi-Final series.

Games one and two are at Spitz Stadium Friday and Saturday (July 31 and August 1). Both games are 7:05 pm starts. Taylor Reid and Adam Reynolds are the scheduled starters on the mound.

The series switches to Medicine Hat for game three Sunday (August 2), and game four if necessary Monday (August 3). If a fifth game is needed it would be played at Spitz Stadium on Tuesday, August 4.
