Bulls Close Out Road Schedule In Medicine Hat
The game took just over two hours to play, with The Medicine Hat Mavericks getting by the Bulls 4-3 Monday to keep their play off hopes alive.
The Mavericks play a critical doubleheader in Edmonton Tuesday night against the Prospects. The outcome of the twin bill might determine which team captures the third and final play off spot in the West.
Meanwhile the Bulls clinched second place in the West Division last Saturday and will open the play offs at home on Friday (July 31).
Medicine Hat led 2-0 after three innings, and the game was tied 3-3 after six. The Mavericks got the winning run in the seventh inning. Bulls starter Scott Hornstra took the loss. He went seven innings and allowed four runs on eight hits, had two strikeouts and one walk. Left hander Curtis Smith pitched a scoreless eighth.
Medicine Hat got nine hits and the Bulls had eight. Neither team committed an error in a game that was completed in two hours and eleven minutes.
Ryan MacDonald was 2 for 4. Zach Rhodes and Jamie Mitchell were both 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Jesse Sawyer contributed an RBI double.
The loss gives the Bulls a record of 23 and 21 with two games left in the regular season, both at home. Okotoks pays their final visit of the regular season to Spitz Stadium Tuesday night, and the Bulls host Medicine Hat for Fan Appreciation Night Wednesday. Both games are 7:05 starts.
The Bulls open the 2009 WMBL Play Offs at home with games one and two of a best-of-five series at Spitz Stadium Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1. If a fifth game is needed it would also be played at Spitz Stadium Tuesday, August 4.
