Bulls Solve the Dawgs Conundrum
A tremendous day at the plate for veteran third baseman Jesse Sawyer, and a solid outing from starting pitcher Adam Reynolds, lead the Bulls to an 11-6 win over Okotoks Sunday afternoon. The Bulls jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a two run homer by Sawyer and never looked back. It was first win for the Bulls since they beat the Dawgs in their home opener June 4.
The lead increased to 5-1 after three innings, and 8-2 after six. Reynolds went six innings to pick up his fifth win of the season (5-3). He allowed two runs on six hits, walked two and had three strike outs. Richard Pharr pitched the seventh and eighth, gave up one hit, two runs, one walk, and struck out three. Steve Hogue closed out in the ninth, allowing two runs on two hits, one walk, and struck out one.
Sawyer had a monster game going 4 for 5 with two home runs, a double and six RBIs. Along with his two run homer in the first, he slammed another two run shot in the eighth. Josh Lowden was 2 for 5 with a run batted in. Brendan Miller went 2 for 6 with an RBI, and Scott Hornstra also drove in a pair of runs, as the Bulls got 13 hits in the game.
The win gives the Bulls a record of 23 and 20 with three games to play in the regular season. They visit Medicine Hat Monday, then close out the regular schedule with two games at home, Okotoks Tuesday and Medicine Hat Wednesday. The final game against the Mavericks is also Fan Appreciation Night. Both games are 7:05 starts at Spitz Stadium.
