Bulls Beaten Badly By Okotoks
Thursday night's game was scoreless for two innings before Okotoks got seven runs in the third inning and went on to a 13-1 victory over the Bulls.
It was the Dawgs number eight and number nine hitters that got things started. Chris Williams and Brett Thomas both walked against starting pitcher Brandon Petite. And when the dust cleared the Dawgs had sent twelve men to the plate and scored seven times.
Okotoks added another run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three more in the sixth. The Dawgs collected fourteen hits, while six pitchers for the Bulls surrendered fourteen walks.
Petite took the loss is now 0 and 1. Jared Mortenson, Mitch Schaafsma and Steve Hogue also took the mound, along with two position players. Outfielder Eric Dorton pitched the eighth inning and third baseman Jesse Sawyer finished up in the ninth.
The Bulls had seven hits in the game. Zach Rhodes was the only man in the line up with more than one hit. He was 2 for 4 with a double and scored the only run on an RBI single by Sawyer.
Despite the loss the Bulls are one game away from clinching second place in the West Division. Medicine Hat lost Thursday to Yorkton, while Edmonton was idle. So one more win by the Bulls, or a loss by Edmonton, would give Lethbridge second place.
The Bulls open a two game series against the Moose Jaw Miller Express Friday night, with game time 7:05 at Spitz Stadium.
The club will be selling tickets for it's 2009 raffle over the weekend at the Fan Center. The tickets are five dollars each. The grand prize is two thousand dollars, two season tickets for next year, and Bulls merchandise. Tickets are also available at the Bulls Office during business hours. The draw will be made on Fan Appreciation Night, the final home game of the regular season July 29 against Medicine Hat.
