Bulls Open a Four Game Homestand With a Win
What a difference a day makes. Tuesday the Bulls committed seven errors in a loss to Okotoks, even though they out hit the Dawgs. Wednesday the Bulls played errorless baseball in a 12-5 win over the Edmonton Prospects.
But the Prospects had their defensive problems with five errors, and the Bulls took advantage of the miscues scoring five runs in the fourth inning and three more in the eighth.
Edmonton did lead 5-3 going to the bottom of the fourth. The Prospects got one run in the first inning off Bulls starting pitcher Scott Hornstra, then three more in third, including a two run homer by Frank Specht.
But from that point Hornstra settled down, gave up one more run in the fourth, then retired the side in the fifth and the sixth. The Bulls ultimate utility man was the winning pitcher going six innings. His line included: five runs, eight hits, two strikeouts and one walk. Richard Pharr struck out the side in the seventh, Jimmy Munnil added two more "K's" in the eighth, and Steve Hogue finished up in the ninth.
The five run fourth included a two RBI base hit by Josh Lowden and an RBI single by Jamie Mitchell. Lowden and Mitchell were both 2 for 5. Jesse Sawyer also drove in two runs with a double, and Brady Farrington was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.
The win moves the Bulls to 21 and 18, second in the WMBL's West Division. But more importantly it drops third place Edmonton to 18 and 23 with one week left in the regular season.
The Bulls host Okotoks Thursday night for a 7:05 game. The home stand continues Friday and Saturday, with the Moose Jaw Miller Express making their only visit of the regular season to Lethbridge. Game time both nights is 7:05.
