Bulls Help The Food Bank And Team Alberta
The Bulls took on Team Alberta Monday at Spitz Stadium in a game that was also the club's third annual "Strike Out Hunger Night". The Bulls won the game 7-4, and assisted both the Interfaith Food Bank and Team Alberta in the process.
About 400 fans attended the game and all the non-perishable items they brought with them will be donated to the Interfaith Food Bank.
Most of the regulars got the night off, and several former Bulls came back to play in the game. The group included Kelly Gregus, Rob Greeno, Grant Kveder, Eric Cattoni, Brandon Magierowski and Darrell Ellis. Coach Ken Fuglerud also saw action in the outfield and on the mound.
The Bulls are currently in the midst of playing fourteen games in fourteen days. So the team is grateful to the alumni for coming out and suiting up for an exhibition game. It allowed several players to get a much-needed day off, including the bullpen.
The provincial team is preparing to represent Alberta in the Canada Games that will be held next month in Prince Edward Island. Bulls catcher Jamie Mitchell is a member of the team and was in the line-up for Alberta Monday night, along with Lethbridge Spitz Elks veteran Tanner Granberg.
The two coaches, Scott Rhodes of the Bulls and Harold Northcott of Team Alberta, spoke before the game. And while several of the Bulls regulars didn't see action, Rhodes still recognized the importance of the game for Team Alberta.
He agreed Alberta needed to see live pitching, as well as field ground balls and fly balls in a game situation in order to prepare properly for the Canada Games. The result was a full nine inning competitive game, that saw the Bulls trailing 4-1 until they scored three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh.
The team returns to league play tonite in Okotoks, then hosts the Edmonton Prospects Wednesday night to make up for a game that was rained out July 14. It's also "Pepsi Night at the Park", with prizes and giveaways through out he evening. Game time is 7:05.
