Bulls Edged By Medicine Hat
Both teams could only manage five hits in a pitcher's duel. But Medicine Hat got a run in the bottom of the seventh for a 2-1 win over the Bulls at Athletic Park on Wednesday.
John Mathews pitched a complete game five hitter, while Adam Reynolds went six and two-thirds for the Bulls. He allowed a pair of runs (one unearned) on five hits, walked three and had one strike out. Richard Pharr replaced Reynolds in the seventh and was tagged with his first loss of the season (4-1). The loss gives the Bulls a record of 16 and 14.
The Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the third, the Mavericks tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, then got the winning run in the seventh. Scott Hornstra was 1 for 2 and drove in the lone run for the Bulls.
The teams meet again in Medicine Hat Thursday night. Then the Bulls return home to host the Regina Red Sox Friday and Saturday. Game time both nights at Spitz Stadium is 7:05. The team hosts an Alumni Game on Sunday at 6 pm as part of the club's tenth anniversary activities.
The Bulls are also participating in the first "Batting Against Breast Cancer" Campaign. The team will wear pink hats in Saturday's game against Regina. The hats will be auctioned off by silent auction and presented to the winners after the game. All proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation. And one dollar from all ticket sales that night will also be donated to the foundation.
Fans will be given an opportunity to "Pound the Red Sox", taking their best shots with a sledge hammer on a used car outside Spitz Stadium as part of the fundraiser. Special Bulls merchandise will be available for purchase as well, with the proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
Tickets for all Bulls home games can be purchased at the box office, or by calling 320-2025.
