Bulls Winning Streak Comes To An End
It was the day after for the Bulls. Following a doubleheader sweep and the largest crowd in franchise history on Canada Day. But the Bulls couldn't maintain the momentum they've built up on this home stand and came back to earth quickly Thursday night, dropping a 15-5 decision to the Edmonton Prospects.
The loss snaps a six game winning streak and gives the team a record of 14 and 12, second in the WMBL's West Division.
The Prospects jumped out to an early lead in the third inning, with six runs off starting and losing pitcher Rob Hogue (1-2). He was replaced by Jared Mortenson in the fourth inning. But Edmonton added four more runs and lead 10-1 after five innings.
Mitch Schaafsma came in for the sixth, but the Prospects continued to score with five more runs. Scott Hornstra replaced Schaafsma in the sixth, and the utility man did an admirable job the rest of the way.
The Bulls managed three runs in seventh and one more in the eighth. Zach Rhodes was 4 for 5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Ryan MacDonald was the only other player in the line-up with more than one hit. He went 2 for 5 and scored a run.
The Bulls close out an eight game home stand Friday night against the Medicine Hat Mavericks. It's a 7:05 start at Spitz Stadium. Then it's a four game road stint, with two games in Edmonton Sunday and Monday, and two games in Medicine Hat next Wednesday and Thursday. The next home game will be Friday, July 10th against the Regina Red Sox.
