Bulls Finish Saskatchewan Trip With An Extra Inning Win
The Bulls wrapped up a six game road trip in Saskatchewan Sunday with a 9-4 win over the Yorkton Cardinals, halting a four game losing streak.
Yorkton took a 1-0 in the second inning and increased the advantage to 3-1 after 4. The Bulls tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth. But the Cardinals went up 4-3 after six innings. The Bulls battled back to tie the game in the eighth inning and then won it with five runs in the tenth.
Richard Pharr pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the win. Brendan Miller drove in the winning run with his third double of the afternoon. He was 3 for 5 in the game.
Coach John Henry Maquardt saw action again as the designated hitter, and went 3 for 5 with an RBI. Marquardt was inserted into the line-up during the latter part of the road trip because the Bulls were missing several starters for a variety of reasons.
Head Coach Scott Rhodes was very pleased with the pitching against Yorkton Sunday. Starter Alex Tufts went five innings, gave up three runs on three hits, struck out three and walked one.
The bullpen took over in the sixth, with Jared Mortenson going two innings and giving up one run on one hit. Pharr followed in the eight and ninth, and was the pitcher of record when the Bulls scored five times in the top of tenth.
The native of Shreveport, Louisiana had another solid outing, giving up three hits, recording five strikeouts and walking one, and improved his record to 2 and 0. Jimmy Munnil finished up in the tenth, retiring the Cardinals in order.
The Bulls won the opening and closing games of the road trip, with four losses sandwiched in between, and are now 7 and 10. Following a day off Monday, the team is back on the road for two games before finally returning to Spitz Stadium Friday.
The Bulls visit Medicine Hat Tuesday and Okotoks Wednesday, then open a seven game homestand Friday, June 26th against Medicine Hat. It's Country 95 "Pack The Park" night, with game time 7:05.
