Bulls come through in home opener
The Lethbridge Bulls treated fans to a 7-5 victory over the Medicine Hat Mavericks on Friday evening's home opener at Spitz Stadium. The Bulls showed their resilience in front of their home crown when they trailed the Mavericks 5-4 heading into the bottom of the 8th; Bulls posted 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th followed up by a scoreless top of the 9th for the Mavericks, securing the 7-5 victory for the home squad.
Bulls starting pitcher Alex Regan earned a no-decision despite throwing 7 strong innings, giving up only 2 runs on 8 hits while striking out 7 Maverick hitters. Jerry Lawrence was first in relief of Regan and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits in just 1 inning of work. Jeremy Filipek threw a scoreless 9th inning for the Bulls securing the first home victory of the 2012 campaign.
Offensively, the Bulls were led by Bretton Gouthro who went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Ridge Gonsoulin who went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Blake, Sawyer, and Fagnan all contributed with an RBI on the night.
Bulls move to 4-3 on the season and look to build on their 2-game winning streak when they host the Mavericks at Spitz Stadium on Saturday night at 7:05pm.
